The sound is powerful and high pitched, the ground shakes and loud voices are heard engulfing the otherwise quiet night air. This is not a calamity; this is the sound of engines gearing up and the torque of their tires grasping the ground as the drivers drag their cars off the starting line. They zoom past you in a split of a second to serve down a cone marked track that’s the only guide to where they must go at those toe-curling speeds.

Standing close or sitting on the benches one can hear the drizzled voice of commentary from high above as an opinionated commentator excites the minds of the observing people with what they see for themselves.

A Red-Bull sponsored event that most people with cars are free to join and participate in. Autocross grants you the chance to feel the thrill of speed in a relatively safe environment and dazzle people with skills other drivers don’t have and prove that you’ve got what it takes.  But most of all, without bringing harm to others.

One doesn’t race other drivers head to head in Autocross; instead, you let the audience decide who got the better skill. How? The time it takes you to complete Autocross`s circuit. Sounds simple enough right? But it’s not. 

The annoying orange cones aren’t just for show. You knock over one cone; lose some points irrespective of your time, knock over two; lose more, knock over three and this is where it gets really fun; lose your respect the ‘outspoken’ commentary, with both male and female voices will make sure of it. It’s hilarious how many times I've heard the commentator say the words. Even motorcycle parts are online these and you can't get your hands on one, why not?

 “Dude you are not worthy of Autocross, go home!”

If you’re not in it for the racing and you just want to watch, you are free to get close enough to see the adrenaline pumping through the drivers and the focus in their eyes. Everyone from families to mannered stags attends, security makes sure that no incidences occur. There are stalls of your favorite joints and if that’s not enough the cars themselves are there perfectly lined up for anyone to see and touch; just not too much, the drivers are sensitive. 


You might see a Mercedes SLK or C-Class, a Mitsubishi- Evolution 2012 Edition, a Mazda RX-8 or the more prestigious RX-7. Highlights of the event might come late or early; if one had stayed the last time for Autocross, one would’ve seen the deafening roar of a Corvette, yellow like the midday sunshine as well as a fleet of the latest top-of-the-line Harley's.
